This elixir is inspired by Ayurvedic medicine. By definition, Ayurveda is “the traditional Hindu system of medicine, which is based on the idea of balance in bodily systems and uses diet, herbal treatment, and yogic breathing.”
The nutmeg is used to stimulate appetite and aid in digestion, the cinnamon is to balance the digestive system and soothe stomach disorders, and the almond milk to used energize and balance the mind.
This is a comforting treat to enjoy at any point of the day, but I prefer it in the evening to help the body and mind wind down before bed.
yield: 2 cups
2 cups of unsweetened almond milk
4 pitted Medjool dates
¼ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp cinnamon
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Choose to enjoy this drink over ice, warmed up or at room temperature.
